For many years, furs have been a precious piece of clothing and considered a must-have in the high-class female wardrobe, as a symbol of luxury and prestige.
Fur made its comeback last winter, and this year it is still among the most loved and desired clothing items. Its popularity was born thanks to celebrities and brands proposing it in different versions on social networks, but it was the cinema of the 1950s that made it known to the public.

From the beginning, fur was worn by men and women to protect themselves from the cold, later it became a clothing item representing a status that distinguished the nobility, until it spread among the various classes while still preserving its symbolic meaning of luxury, nobility and elegance.
Over time, however, the materials of fur have changed, especially as a result of the animal rights movements that emerged around the 1970s-1980s in the United States, which highlighted the harsh process of making it. These revelations led to the emergence of demonstrations and campaigns against this form of cruelty. Luxury brands were the first to decide to stop using animal furs and to use plant-based fibres; the pioneer was Stella McCartney in her Ready to Wear autumn-winter 2023-2024 collection.
However, there is still the problem of the fast fashion industry, which produces most ‘Faux Fur’, i.e. synthetic furs derived from plastic, a material that is prone to deterioration compared to real fur, that becomes toxic waste and therefore impossible to recycle. For this reason, maybe the best solution is to buy vintage furs or retrieve them from our grandmothers' wardrobes, an eco-friendly and sustainable choice.
The colours of this year's furs are neutral, delicate and chic, going from greys to ochre, olive green and ice white. Of course, there are the classic black ones and the trend of 2024, i.e. the spotted one.
